Financing home energy upgrades
The upfront cost of home energy improvements can be a barrier, but there are grants, finance options and free support available to help.
Grants
Currently, the main grant available in the Tonbridge and Malling Borough Council area is the Boiler Upgrade Scheme. We will update our community as other become available.
The Boiler Upgrade Scheme offers grants of £2,500–£7,500 towards replacing fossil fuel heating with a low-carbon alternative, rising to £9,000 for off-grid properties until March 2027. Available to homeowners and landlords regardless of income.
An MCS-certified installer applies on your behalf and deducts the grant from the installation cost.
Green Finance
For other home energy upgrades, green finance can help spread the cost of improvements.
Green finance refers to a growing range of products offered by banks and lenders to support energy efficient homes and retrofit improvements. These include green mortgages, additional borrowing, and retrofit loans, often with features such as lower interest rates, cashback, or enhanced borrowing limits.
