Heat pump grant worth £9,000 now available for oil and LPG households

In his speech at the National Growth Debate in April, Ed Miliband announced that the Boiler Upgrade Scheme will now increase to £9,000 for households replacing oil or LPG heating with a heat pump. This was one of several announcements made in response to the oil crisis, aiming to delink global oil prices from British electricity bills. This grant increase will only be valid for this financial year, starting from July.

This is good news for the 1.7 million households in England and Wales that rely on oil or LPG for heating – most of them in rural, off-grid areas like our villages. The uplift will cover air source heat pumps (air-to-water) and ground source heat pumps, but won’t apply for air-to-air heat pumps and biomass boilers.
